Stunning Albany And Denmark

Boasting awe-inspiring beauty and incredible experiences, the state of Western Australia is without a doubt one of our country's finest. A diversity of destinations makes it the ideal place to take a holiday and the immensity of its size makes car hire the best option to explore it.

Nestled in the far south-west of the state is the charming city of Albany. Situated just under a five hour drive from Perth, Albany is set against a backdrop of rugged granite coastline contrasted against glorious green seas.

Visitors to Albany will take a journey back through time as they explore the fascinating convict jails, old taverns and historic settlers' cabins. This is a city enshrined in the past, with a modern touch ensuring there is something here for everyone. The best way to immerse yourself in this is to embark on an adventure along the Amity Trail. This 30-minute self-guided walk will take you past some of the area's most notable historic buildings and is the perfect way to soak up the fascinating stories that are just waiting to be told.

While in the area you simply cannot pass up Torndirrup National Park; a place of immense beauty and incredible natural wonders. As the most visited national park in the state, Torndirrup is sure to please, with its unsurpassed views of the rugged southern coastline bound to take your breath away. Undeniable highlights of the park include the famous Gap and Natural Bridge, along with the beautiful Bald Head and Misery Beach.

After exploring the wonders of this park, why not take a drive past quirky granite Dog Rock and stop to take a walk along the Middleton Beach boardwalk trail which offers sensational views of the King George Sound. And if this isn't enough to fill up your day, why not engage in some whale watching on a cruise or by checking out the last operating whaling station at Whale World.

After exploring the beautiful region of Albany, take the short drive out to the nearby town of Denmark. This is a place you will instantly fall in love with, offering stunning coastal scenery and a charming small-town feel. Positioned on the stunning Wilson Inlet, this town boasts fantastic swimming, surfing and fishing beaches and is an outdoor-lover's paradise.

First on the agenda should be William Bay, where you will uncover the beautiful Greens Pool; a sheltered natural lagoon ideal for snorkeling. Just east of this you will find the remarkable Elephant Rocks; unique formations that resemble their name's sake.

The Valley of the Giants is another must-see attraction in the area as it is home to the world-famous Tree Top Walk. Gain a different perspective of the shapes, sounds and movements of the forest as you walk through the treetops, with some stages of the walk 40 metres above the ground.

Back in town take some time to visit some of the historic sites scattered around the township. The old butter factory, Denmark's first school and the historic fire station are particularly popular spots, and the Denmark Hotel will be the perfect place to finish the day off.

Both Albany and Denmark are great places to visit and at least a week can be spent exploring these historic towns and their surrounding areas. Packed with stunning natural beauty and a fascinating and gripping past, it's no wonder they are at the top of the list for most desired places to visit in Western Australia.
