Over the years, the world's politicians have come up with some pretty wacky and weird driving laws, but these ones have to take the cake:
- In China, drivers of motor vehicles who stop at pedestrian crossings are liable to pay a fine or receive a warning; quite the opposite to Australia!
- According to Danish laws, before you start your car you are required to check lights, brakes, steering and honk your horn. You are also obliged to do a manual check of your car to ensure no children are underneath or around it.
- While driving in Denmark you must also have someone in front of your car with a flag to warn horse drawn carriages that a motor vehicle is approaching.
- Californian law prohibits a woman from driving a car while dressed in a housecoat.
- In Memphis, Tennessee, a woman is not to drive a car unless a man warns approaching motorists or pedestrians by walking in front of the car that is being driven.
- In California, it is also illegal to drive a car while sleeping. Too bad for all those sleep-walking-drivers out there!
- In the city of New York, it is illegal for a blind person to drive a motor vehicle. Isn't this obvious?
- In the state of Alabama, it is against the law for a driver to be blindfolded while operating a vehicle.
- In Australia, you may never leave your car keys in the door of an unattended vehicle.
- In Thailand you must always wear a shirt while driving a car!
- In Switzerland it is required that every car with snow tires has to have a sticker on its dashboard which tells that the driver should not drive faster than 160 km/h with these tires.
- In Korea, traffic police are required to report all bribes that they receive from motorists
We certainly live in a strange but wonderful world!
