Basic Road Rules For Every Country

The rules of the road are the general practices and procedures that road users follow. Each country in the world enforces a specific set of road rules, which all drivers should follow in order to maintain safe working roads.

There are lots of similar rules that apply world wide, yet some countries are more particular in how drivers should behave. Each country varies on which side of the road drivers are permitted to travel and visitors should be aware of this fact before they attempt to drive in an unknown country. Driving on the wrong side of the road, not only results in confusion, but can often end in tragedy.

As a general rule in all countries, while in a vehicle, seat belts must be worn at all times. This includes children in baby seats as well as the adults in the front. Seat belts are an essential safety precaution that should never be ignored.

Another necessity in all countries is that the driver always carries their driver's licence on them. This is essential not only to prove that the driver is capable of driving, but also as a sufficient form of identification and proof of age. If you get pulled over by the police and you do not have a valid licence with you, you may be in quite a predicament.

Most major roads across the world have clearly marked lines or arrows. These are in place for a very important reason; to direct traffic and to indicate when certain manoeuvres should and should not be done. Drivers should be aware of what the lines indicate and should abide by these to the fullest degree.

These lines are also indicative of where drivers should travel while on highways, motorways and freeways. Usually, drivers are expected to stay in the slow lane unless overtaking. This is not only a rule, but it is also a simple courtesy that avoids road rage and accidents.

Drivers also have several responsibilities when it comes to the safety of others. As a general rule, drivers are expected to avoid hitting other vehicles and pedestrians, regardless of whether or not the applicable rules of the road alter them to be where they happen to be. Drivers also have the responsibility not to drink and drive and to at all times, take care of pedestrians.

If these simple and common road rules are followed in every country, accidents and confusion can be avoided and the roads can remain safe for all drivers.
