When travelling from Sydney, simply travel north along the F3 Highway out of the city, and take either the Gosford, Tuggerah and Toukley exit, which will take you to the numerous intriguing regions of the central coast.

Although the name may suggest otherwise, the Central Coast is comprised of both coastal and hinterland regions. Inland you will find some unbeatable National Parks, forests and reserves, while along the coast, you will be met with some spectacular, clear beaches. Natural beauty can be seen in every direction you look in, with scenic sights, picturesque backdrops and pristine waterways hidden around every corner. While exploring the seaside towns and cities on the Central Coast, you may be torn between relaxing and taking it easy and getting active and adventurous. However, if you plan your visit well, you will be able to do both!

The Central Coast offers a wealth of attractions and activities for families of all sizes and ages. For all those keen golfers out there, you will be pleased to find that there are several meticulously maintained golf courses in the area, allowing anyone and everyone to try their hand at golf. Skate your way around the indoor ice-rinks or hike along the prehistoric rainforest trails and in the lush green valleys. Take the kids for a treat and go horse riding on some charming bush trails or venture into one of the local tenpin bowling centres and strike through an afternoon of undeniable fun.

If you want a change from dry land and want to get out on the water, take part in some of the many water-based activities on offer. Take a surfing lesson at one of the 30 stunning beaches in the Central Coast region, or for a more extreme beach experience, get hold of a trained professional and learn how to surf ski. If the beach lifestyle isn't quite for you, head out to one of the beautiful local lacks, such as Lake Macquarie and Lake Tuggerah , where you can hire a kayak, canoe or paddleboat. Learn about all the fascinating Australian reptiles, with the opportunity to interact with the most interesting of them. The Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park will introduce you to the original inhabitants of the land; the koalas, kangaroos and dingoes. You will also find some other stunning flora and fauna on display in the park, which will lead to your greater appreciation of the hidden wonder of Australia's natural environment.

All of this fun and adventure is sure to wear you out after a while so leave some time to relax and soak up the distinctive atmosphere and magnificent surroundings. Browse the interesting exhbitions in the local art galleries and studios and hunt for treasure in one of the local markets. Take a leisurely stroll through one of the beautifully manicured gardens or fully stocked nurseries, or hike up to the Norah Head Lighthouse and discover some of the local history while soaking up the magnificent ocean views.

One of the great things about this part of the coast, is its diversity in places to explore. Each town and region has its own distinctive qualities and attractions and these will instantly draw you in. If you take the Gosford exit off the freeway you will be led to Woy Woy, Avoca, Terrigal and Gosford. Gosford is the major commercial and administrative centre of the Central Coast and boasts several spectacular ocean beaches and evergreen bushland and forests. Gosford's mild climate means that it can be enjoyed all year round, making it your perfect base in the Central Coast.

If you choose to take the Tuggerah exit off the freeway you will journey into the beautiful regions of The Entrance and Bateau Bay. This would have to be one of the prettiest holiday destinations in Australia as it captures the essence of Queensland's Gold Coast, without the hustle and bustle and commercialism. Home to ideal surfing beaches, lake recreational areas and foreshore boardwalks this is the perfect destination for a fun-filled family holiday. Hand feed the pelicans or hike to one of the scenic lookout points for stunning views of the coastline. This destination is sure to make the whole family happy.

Another great feature of the Central Coast region is the quality dining experiences that it offers. Many of the restaurants and cafes offer glorious views, and serve authentic Indigenous cuisine, giving you the opportunity to sample some traditions of Australian culture.
